Stoneman Glaciara Bike
4,700 metres in altitude, 27 billion tonnes of ice: the Stoneman Glaciara is Roland Stauder's new mountain bike experience in Switzerland.
The route leads over three balanced stages up to the Great Aletsch Glacier - the mightiest ice stream in the Alps - and back to Mörel. With almost 1,600 metres of altitude difference, the king's climb follows: an old military road leads steeply up to the 2451 m high Breithorn Pass. The descent into the Binntal follows. The route then continues along the Rhone towards Obergoms - through ancient, mystical village centres, along monuments steeped in history and inviting cafés.
Stoneman Glaciara Hike
A fairytale running and hiking route through the centuries-old mountain villages of the Valais, past the magnificent Aletsch glacier and over two suspension bridges spanning the valley. The route of 65 kilometres in total with 3,150 metres of altitude gain is designed to be completed either as a varied trail run in one day or as a hiking adventure with two or three day stages.
A challenging climb leads from the over 600-year-old Gommerdorf Bellwald up to the crystal-clear Märjelensee lake on the eastern edge of the Aletsch glacier. The highlight of the Stoneman Glaciara Hike is undoubtedly the ridge walk from this imposing backdrop. From the impressive vantage point of the Eggishorn, the ridge leads to the Bettmerhorn.
The absolute highlights also include crossing the two monumental suspension bridges at a height of more than 100 metres. The breathtaking natural spectacle is rounded off by the mystique of the centuries-old Valais mountain villages in Goms.
